Common Causes of a High Water Bill
Slab Leak
A pinhole in a pipe beneath your concrete foundation can waste hundreds of gallons per day without any visible signs indoors.
Underground Line Leak
The main water line from the street to your home, or supply lines in your yard, can crack underground with no surface sign.
Irrigation System Leak
A broken zone valve, cracked lateral pipe, or failed head can run water underground for weeks before the bill reveals it.
Toilet Flapper Leak
A faulty toilet flapper can silently waste 200+ gallons per day. We check toilets as part of a comprehensive inspection.
Water Heater Leak
Slow leaks from water heater fittings or tank corrosion often go unnoticed in utility closets.
Appliance Leak
Refrigerator water lines, washing machine connections, and dishwasher hoses can drip behind appliances for months.
Our Systematic Approach
Meter Baseline
We start with a water meter test to confirm an active leak exists and estimate the flow rate.
Isolate Systems
We isolate the irrigation, check the slab, and test supply lines to narrow down where water is escaping.
Full Inspection
We inspect the slab with acoustic and thermal tools, run each irrigation zone, check appliances, and test all fixtures.
Document & Report
Once found, we photograph the source and write a clear report your plumber can use to repair precisely.
High Water Bill Leak Detection FAQs
My water bill doubled but I can't find a leak. What do I do?
Call us. A doubled water bill with no visible leak is the classic sign of a hidden leak — often a slab leak, underground line leak, or irrigation system failure. We systematically check every possible source.
How do you find a hidden leak when there are no visible signs?
We start with a water meter test to confirm there is an active leak. Then we isolate each system — isolating the irrigation, checking the slab, pressure testing supply lines — until we find the source.
Can I check my water meter myself?
Yes — turn off all fixtures and appliances, then check if your water meter dial is moving. If it is, you have an active leak. That's the first step. Call us next to find exactly where it is.
Do you repair the leak after you find it?
No — we are detection only. We find the leak, document it with photos and a written report, and your plumber handles the repair. This means no bias and no reason to exaggerate findings.
How long does a hidden leak inspection take?
A comprehensive inspection typically takes 1–2 hours depending on property size and how many systems we need to test. We do it methodically so nothing gets missed.
Will my water utility credit me if you find a hidden leak?
Many utilities — including Deltona Utilities and OUC — offer leak adjustment credits when a hidden leak is found and repaired. Our report with documented findings can support your credit request.
What if you can't find the leak?
We find leaks on the first visit in the vast majority of cases. In rare situations where the leak is intermittent or very slow, we'll document what we found and recommend next steps. We don't charge extra for being thorough.
How much water does a hidden slab leak waste?
A pinhole slab leak can waste 100–300+ gallons per day. Underground line leaks can waste even more. That's why a doubled water bill is such a strong indicator.
Do you check irrigation systems for hidden leaks?
Yes. Irrigation leaks are one of the top causes of high water bills in Central Florida. We run each zone and check for pressure drops, wet areas, and unusual meter movement.
What areas do you serve for high water bill inspections?
We serve all of Volusia, Seminole, and Orange County including Deltona, DeLand, Orlando, Sanford, Lake Mary, Longwood, Altamonte Springs, Daytona Beach, Port Orange, and all surrounding communities.
